Oktoberfest at Carlisle, PA

With more than 6 million attendees from around the world, Oktoberfest is the world’s largest fair. Lively music, beers, sausages and lederhosen-clad waitresses – what more could guys ask for? It is held annually in Munich, Bavaria, Germany but don’t fret because you don’t need to travel all the way to Germany just to celebrate Oktoberfest. Fortunately, some countries, including my home country, the Philippines, also celebrate it in their home.

Since 20 percent of the Americans can claim to have German ancestry, the said traditional fall festival is popular in various cities around the USA. This year, the Oktoberfest that I attended is the one hosted by the Carlisle Barracks. It was from October 11 to October 13 but the first day was postponed due to the bad weather brought by the heavy rain.

“C’mon, let’s go! It’s about time to leave,” said my Dad at about 11:30 pm of October 12 so I rushed to the car even though I still didn’t have my shoelaces both tied up yet. In 10 minutes, we were already there in the location, Army Heritage & Education Center (AHEC). The event is open to the public and has free admittance. However, you should pay for the rides. Per ride is about 4 dollars and the ride-all-you-can ticket is 18 dollars so we opted to get the ride-all-you-can ticket. I was not interested with the rides but my little siblings asked me to ride with them. Haha! I really find the rides boring but I like riding those with my siblings.

Can you spot me?

As you can see, I am really bored. Haha!

It seems like my brother and I were the first ones who rode this spinning ride.

There, you see Bela and her brother, Vino!

This is where I got my cheeseburger lunch.

The man who won this hotdog-eating contest is the one nearest to me. He ate 10 hotdog sandwiches in just 5 minutes. Beat that!

But, I rocked this seat for a while. Haha!

I win this game every time I play it. We won more than 10 good prizes.

This ride will just make you feel that you’re flying.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Actually, these fair rides just made me feel dizzy.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I ate two orders of funnel cake. Haha.

Round up at night

Whether or not you are of German heritage, you can find a place to celebrate Oktoberfest without needing to book a ticket to Munich!

How about you? How did you celebrate Oktoberfest this year?

  1. Next year you should try Stoudt’s Brewery for Oktoberfest! They do very traditional dancing and food, a traditional German village is built around the brewery, and you get up to 3 full beers with your admission! Genuine brews, too, no Bud Light and all that nonsense. XD It’s a great time!
