Shooting: but not with my camera

The first time I held a gun was when I was 5 years old. I remember my dad allowing me to hold his rifle. Then, I grew older and my dad brought me to the range.

Don’t mind my face.

Those childhood memories aren’t fresh anymore. However, I have recent shooting experience that I can share with you. Three months ago, I was able to shoot again. I was never comfortable with guns so I was very nervous.

After that session in the range, I enjoyed the experience but I had too many complains – too many buts: The assault rifle has less recoil but it is heavy for me. The pistol is definitely way lighter but I don’t like its recoil force. Both guns are loud. Other people’s guns distract me. Basically, I didn’t like the strong recoil, the loud sound and the heavy weight of the guns. After that, I didn’t want to shoot any gun anymore.

Plot twist: Now, I am starting to love shooting. How did it happen? Remember my complains about the gun. Jacob solved it by getting me a light and not-so-loud rifle with less recoil. Yay! Thanks, Jacob!

Here’s my target:

Note; The upper right hand part wasn’t shot by me. Jacob used that part test if my scope is adjusted correctly.

It’s a good start – all 10s! It was only then when I started liking guns. I used to fear them. I always think of them as “killers.”  Now, I realized that they are just inanimate objects. Can a gun load magazines and pull the trigger by itself? The answer is no. However, everyone should still need to be careful handling it. Jacob made sure that I know the gun safety rules before he let me shoot the gun.DCIM100GOPRO

Basic Gun Safety Rules

  1. Treat every gun as if it’s loaded.
  2. Never point the gun at something you are not willing to destroy.
  3. Keep your finger off the trigger until your sights are on the target.
  4. Be sure of your target and know what’s beyond it.

I am now learning to love something that I used to dislike. Now, we can go to a shooting date without me just being in the corner playing with my phone.

  1. I grew up in a military family and my name is military city in Russia. Guns has been a part of my childhood days too! It can be your friend or it can also be your worst enemy. Use it safely or better yet not to use it at all! 🙂 Happy shooting!x
